Teaching Key Points:
Ditto
Teaching Difficult Points:
1. Use color words to describe.
2.Conduct the game “Rainbow Race” in pairs.
Teaching Procedures:
I. Warm up
Sing the color song learned in Activity 3.
II. Practice
A. Focus on colors
1. Revision: Display color blocks and have the students name them. Show color words and have the students read them. Invite students to match the blocks with the words.
2. Expansion: Have the students tell what color two colors make, such as blue and yellow make green. Encourage them to find out answers after class if there is a dispute.
3. Application: Display a picture part by part. Invite students to describe what they see using color words, such as “The sky is blue”. Elicit words of objects first such as “ house, sky, clouds, dog…”
4. Discussion: Have the students tell what their favorite colors are. Get them to ask and answer in pairs first and then invite them to tell the others.
B. Focus on numbers
1. Lead in: Present pictures of classroom objects and have the students name them. Encourage them to tell the quantity and color of these objects, such as “one blue pen, three pink erasers”
2. Count: Show number words from 1 to 10 randomly and have students identify them. Get the class to tell numbers from 11 to 20. Compare “three” with “thirteen”, “five” with “fifteen”…Invite students to count through from 1 to 20.
3. Application: Have students tell the neighboring numbers with given clues, such as “______,three, five,_______/ two,_____six, eight…Have students solve some addition and subtraction problems, such as “Five + eight = thirteen, twenty – five = fifteen.”
C. Focus on present progressive tense
1. Present a picture of an apartment building. Say, “It’s six o’clock in the evening. What are people doing in each apartment?” Help students read through the room numbers, such “105, 106, 204, 205…” Uncover the curtains and have students answer , “What’s he/she doing?” or “What are they doing?” according to the pictures. Help students answer correctly with pronouns “he, she , they”.
2. Guessing game: Display pictures which are partially covered. Have students guess what people are doing in each picture, such as “She’s dancing…”
3. Play Charade: Invite some volunteers to act out the given verbs and let the others guess “What’s he/she doing?”
III. Assessment “Rainbow Race”
1. Focus the students’ attention on the game board. Demonstrate with a volunteer how to play the game. Players take turns throwing the number cube, moving forward the number of spaces on the cube, and naming what they land on, such as “She’s writing. It’s eighteen. It’s purple.”
2. Have students play the game in pairs. Walk around as the students play the game. Note whether they can correctly name colors, numbers and activities.
Blackboard Design:
Unit 1 This is my class 1. The house is blue. 2. It’s eighteen. 3. What’s she/he doing? What are they doing? She’s/He’s skating. They’re coloring. |
Reflection:
This is a revision class. I helped them to go over the three topics of this unit: colors, numbers 1-20 and present progressive tense, since the students were supposed to use them in the Rainbow Race. Most students caught up very well and it was great to see that the slow students were involved in the class activities. However, the students weren’t very excited to learn. New games or more interesting activities are needed for a revision lesson. If exercises on numbers had been printed and handed out to the students, they would have concentrated more.
