To make an interview about an athlete learnt
Teaching Procedures:
I. Warm up
Free talk:
1. Who impresses you a lot ? Why?
Get students to talk about the athletes they learnt in pairs. Then ask some students to share their answers.
II. Pre-listen
Get Ss to read the chart, make them know what they need to listen for.
Students are made to make up a complete question according to the hint.
III. Listen
1. Listen and fill in the chart. (Only listen for number )
Cause the listening material is a little bit hard for them, the audio is repeated three times.
Check the answers together.
2. Listen and answer some questions related.
1.What does the reporter think of Jackie?
2.In high school, what did Jackie play?
3.In college, what did she excel in?
4. What’s the relationship between Jackie and Bob Kersee?
5. What prize did she get in Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992?
6. What is heptathlon?
First, get Ss to read the questions. While reading, explain some new words, like: relationship and excel.
Second: Listen (three times) and write down the answers on paper.
Ⅳ. Read
1. Read the tapescript and check the answers by themselves. Then discuss it groups. They deal with the former 5 questions.
2. Read the second part about “heptathlon”. Get Ss to make a definition about it.
3.While Ss report the opinion, lead them to think logically.
Ⅴ. Practice
1. Get Ss to write down five questions abut Jackie. Exchange in groups to choose five or six.
2. Imitate an interview about Jackie. One acts as Jackie and another acts as a reports.
(After every interview, get to Ss to talk about what they need to be improved.)
Reflection:
本节课原本的意图是以听力为依托的一节听力及口语训练课。本单元的主题是让学生了解各个体育领域的明星,并学习与之相关的专有名词,同时学会介绍和谈论自己最喜欢的体育明星。
本节课的听力部分是关于世界女子七项全能的运动员Jackie的介绍,第一部分是听出相关的数字,第二部分是细节信息的获取。但由于我对于听力难度的估计不足,使得整节课最终只是完成听力的部分。原本设计的学生能力的升华部分没有展示出来。
