Teaching Design

Greetings

Step 1 Warm-up Brainstorm

Show students a box and ask students to guess: What’s in the box?

Students may guess clothes, because we’re learning about clothes this unit.

Then, the teacher introduce: I bought some clothes for my family on line, for example, there is a jacket for my little son. Can you guess what else in the box?

(This step is get students into s situation and get students to brainstorm all kinds of clothes we’ve learnd. When students got what I prepared, the teacher will show them, and review the clothes)

Step 2 Presentation

• The last one the teacher showed to the whole class is a flowered sweater. The teacher will get the students to think about what kind of sweater is it?Since they can see the flowers on it, many students will guess flower sweater. The teacher write this word on the board.

• The the teacher take out a striped jacket, and ask what kind of jacket is it? Students may answer: Line jacket or strip jacket. The teacher will also write on the board.

• Then show a plaid dress, and get stduents to discuss and find the answers. Students may open books and find the answers on the book. After discussion time, get students to speak out their answers. And the teacher will show the correct answers.

• Open the book, and read the shirts by themselves, and get students to try to read well and can recoganize them. The group leaders help the members to read well. Students may have difficult understanding “plaid” and “checked”. Show two pictures of a checkerboard and checked shirt, and get students to explain the difference.

Step 3 Practice

Task 1:Show some pictures and review the shirts together. Then point and say to check;

Task 2:Show a picture of clothes and describe it as: It’s a plaid dress with a zipper, but without a collar and pockets. Later, show several more pictures and get stduents to try to describe them by themselves. After that, get students to check their answers with their partners. At the end, share their answers in class.

Task 3:Show 8 differents kinds of clothes for students to choose to describe and later describe and guess. To see how students describe and understand.

Step 4 Discussion

• Show a picture of the school uniform and get students to design a new school uniform and describe it to students.

Teaching Reflection:

In this class, I intend to get stduents to learn about different kinds of shirts by themselves, they can guess according to the shirts and they can look up the words list to find the amswers. Later, they are encouraged to check their answers wuth their partners. In the praactice part. I intent to get students to practice more and then they can describe the various clothes well. At the end, I tried to get students to design their own uniform and describe it.

The warm-up part is attractive for the students and they are eager to guess and look forward to what we’re going to learn. In the presentation part, students are doing well guessing the shirts, but I made a mistake in pronuncing “striped” and the steps were not very clear in this part. In the practice part, it will be better that I show some similar shirts for students to describe and guess. That will be more challenging and can check if students can describe and guess correctly. In the discussion part, settting some situations for students to use what we have learned may be better than just practice describing without situdations.

In this class, students were active and they did a pretty good job in thinking independently, and discussing in groups and later show what they’ve got. And the atmosphere in class is safe, necouraging and happy.

That’s my teaching reflection to this open class.
